its Florida launch pad on Wednesday, a critical step in NASA's plan to
return its shuttle fleet to flight next month after a hiatus of more
than two years."

It is indeed sad that these tests and fixes have to be done now, when the
vehicle is so old. They should, of course have been part of the development
work at the start, but then, those in charge thought they know it all, back
then.
