Someone has to say it: Discovery is Home!
From the usual NASA shuttle page:
Mission Elapsed Time:
15 days, 2 hours, 47 minutes, 10 seconds
Official Landing Times
Main gear touchdown:
9:08:35 a.m. EDT
Nose gear touchdown:
9:08:47 a.m. EDT
Wheels stop:
9:09:33 a.m. EDT
Total miles:
more than 6.2 million
Personal note: Was up too long listening to the deorbit preps.
Started doing nap-and-check; and was listening for most of the way
back. But sometime around Georgia, nodded off and then was next aware
of "Congratulations and Welcome Home!"
Anyone see the trail as they overflew the ConUS on that last, um,
orbit?

Way back in the 80s when I was living in Georgia, I went outside
during a very similar reentery path and about the time the Shuttle
was due to overfly my location, I heard a very faint 'boom - boom'.
Impressive considering the very high altitude at that point.
The only other time I've heard that sonic boom was in Titusville,
Florida, waiting to watch the landing on the runway. The double
boom was pretty loud -- I jumped. Sounds like a shotgun, close
up.

Costa Mesa isn't *that* close to Edwards, but some of the booms have
been impressive -- sometimes rattling windows.
