My sister-in-law sent me a series of photographs purported to be of the
break-up of Columbia, taken by an Israeli sattelite.
Has this appeared elsewhere? Is there any piece of truth in it at all?
It sure looks bogus to me..

Very bogus. Those surfaced shortly after the disaster and they have no
credibility whatsoever. They were debunked just as quickly as they
showed up.
